Non-Sino-Vietnamese reading of Chinese 空路 (“Path to Heaven”, SV: Không Lộ), the stone pillar that was supposedly constructed to separate heaven and earth and then destroyed by the creator god thần trụ trời.^[1]

Element khổng’s unetymological hỏi-tone is possibly due to influence of khủng (“big, huge, dreadful”); element lồ’s huyền-tone likely results from the same historical phonological process which yields doublets like loài & loại from 類 (MC lwijH), từ & tự from 自 (MC dzijH), dùng & dụng from 用 (MC yowngH), etc.

     Jonathan was originally identified as an Aldabra giant tortoise (Aldabrachelys gigantea) from the Aldabra Atoll, which forms part of the Seychelles archipelago. But following an examination of his shell by zoological professionals and the Seychelles Nature Trust, scientists determined he was likely a rare Seychelles giant tortoise.
