Probably from kìšti (“to poke, to shove”) + -enė.[1] Older theories have suggested that the word may instead have been borrowed from Slavic; compare Belarusian кі́шка (kíška), Polish kiszka (“intestine, bowel”), ultimately from Proto-Slavic *kyšьka.[2]
