kie- + -kko (< *keekkoi, cognate with Ingrian keekko, Karelian kiekko, kiehkoi and Ludian kiek); possibly ultimately derived from kierä or kiehkeä, perhaps through suffix substitution; one possibility is kiehkeä + -o > (dialectal) kiehko > kiekko, in which case the word would have spread from Eastern to Western Finnish.
