Possibly from a Proto-Indo-European root shared with Old Armenian կարաս (karas, pitcher, large jar), Ancient Greek κρωσσός (krōssós, pitcher), but the phonetics are problematic. Also compare Old Irish croiccenn (skin).[1][2]
