Lithuanian

Etymology

Cognate with Old Prussian quoitā (wants), quoi ((I/you) want), quāits (desire), from a Proto-Baltic *kwit-,[1] perhaps from Proto-Indo-European *kʷeh₂- (to acquire, seek) and cognate with Latin quaerō (to seek, question).[2] Older comparisons to Lithuanian káitėti (to lack, be wanting), Old East Slavic свѣтъ (světŭ, world; society), and Latin invītō (to invite) have formal and semantic issues.[3]
