Lithuanian

Etymology

Cognate with Latvian lēzns (flat, even), of uncertain further origin. Often connected to Proto-Germanic *lēgaz (low, flat), assuming an earlier form of lēž-tas for the Lithuanian (based on the Latvian cognates), and further taken to be from a Proto-Indo-European *leh₁ģʰ- (to lie down);[1] however, the Proto-Indo-European root in question is generally reconstructed as *legʰ-, which cannot produce the Baltic forms.

Possibly related to ložė́ti (to lie down on the ground; (of grain blown by rain and wind) to fly off).
