Perhaps from the metathesis of an unattested *casalán, from Arabic كَسْلَان (kaslān, “lazy”).[1] Compare Spanish holgazán. Alternatively a derogatory formation from lacón (“pig shoulder”), as its synonym lacoeiro.[2]
