Cognate with Serbo-Croatian ла́нац (“chain”), Slovene lanec (“chain”), Macedonian and Bulgarian ланец (lanec, “golden or silver chain”), South and Western Russian ланцу́г (lancúg, “chain”), Polish łańcuch (“chain”), Czech and Slovak lano (“cable, rope”).
