Borrowed from Ido lenta, from French lent, with the e changed to a to avoid confusion with lento.
lanta (accusative singular lantan, plural lantaj, accusative plural lantajn)
Variant of lansi (“low-lying land”), possibly by backformation from dialectal lantea (“fertile, of land”). Semantic development has probably been through "fertile soil, material used as fertilizer". Attested since the early 18th century.
A connection has also been purported to Proto-Germanic *hlandą (“urine”).
