Galician
Etymology
Debated. From Old Galician-Portuguese loução, from *lautiano, derived either from Gothic 𐍆𐌻𐌰𐌿𐍄𐍃 (flauts, “boastful, conceited”), from Proto-Germanic *flautaz, or from Latin lautus (“washed; refined”) (compare louza (“dishware”). Older meanings favour the Germanic origin, but the loss of the initial f- would be irregular.
Cognate with Portuguese loução and Spanish lozano.
