From Ottoman Turkish مغدور (mağdur), from Arabic مَغْدُور (maḡdūr), passive participle of غَدَرَ (ḡadara, to betray, desert). Nişanyan considers this a pseudo-loan, a regular Arabic formation not attested in Arabic when it appeared in Ottoman Turkish in the 19th century.
