Romanian

Etymology

Inherited from Latin nivōsum, the form is likely the cause of regional sound changes most realised in Transylvania. The development of nea for context: Latin nivem > *neue > *nee > *neia > nea. Thus neios is derived from *neuos which was restructured by analogy with *neia. Such developments are also displayed in the regional forms of the following verbs: învia - învie, scrie - scria, lăua - laie.

Corresponding to Romanian nea + -os.
