Hinde (1904) records njira as an equivalent of English road in “Jogowini dialect” of Kikuyu, listing also “Ulu dialect” (spoken then from Machakos to coastal area) of Kamba nsia, “Nganyawa dialect” (spoken then in Kitui District) of Kamba ndthia, and Swahili njia and ndia as its equivalents.
