From njȅg-, the genitive singular of the first-person pronoun ȏn +‎ -ov, a suffix forming possessive adjectives. Used since the 13th century, replacing the postpositive genitive of the personal pronoun jego. Akin to Slovene njegôv and Bulgarian не́гов (négov).
