From South Slavic; cf. Serbo-Croatian њу̏шка / njȕška (snout, muzzle, neb), Bulgarian нюшка (njuška). [1] Alternatively from Albanian noçë, of unclear origin. Possibly from an older *noshë, continuing Proto-Indo-European *néh₂s, *nh₂es (nose, nostrils), with the affricatization of the original final fricative (cf. çaj ~ shaj etc.).[2]
