From Proto-Finnic *orja (“slave, servant”), from Proto-Finno-Permic *orja, probably borrowed from Proto-Indo-Iranian *áryas (“Aryan”).[1] Cognates include Estonian ori, Erzya уре (uŕe) and Udmurt вар (var).
