Etymology

From padol (to floor, board, plank, verb; archaic) +‎ -ás (noun-forming suffix), from pad (bench, long seat) +‎ -ol (verb-forming suffix), originally “the act or the result of covering with boards or planks”. The noun pad also used to have the meaning “garret, loft, attic”, which may have affected the development of the meaning of padlás.[1]
