Latvian

Etymology

Derived from the borrowed term reize (time), originally in the combination pa reizi ((arranged) in order) (reizi being here an older dative, corresponding to modern reizei) and then later as a single adverb pareizi, from which an adjective form pareizīgs was formed in the 1860s-1870s, reduced by the turn of the century to pareizs. The original meaning “in order” changed to “(well) organized,” from which it became “right, correct,” replacing the earlier Germanic borrowing riktīgs.[1]
