Cognate to Finnish piika. Possibly a Swedish loan from Swedish piga or Old Swedish pīka, pīgha. Possibly, the Swedish word is loaned from a Finnic language. It is difficult to pinpoint the exact direction of the loan, because there are no further cognates in non-Finnic Uralic languages and non-North-Germanic Germanic languages. A more unlikely theory is a common Turkic origin; compare Chuvash пике́ (pik̬é, “noblewoman, beauty”).
