Albanian
Etymology
From a South Slavic language, compare Serbo-Croatian seno, Bulgarian сено (seno); ultimately from Proto-Slavic *sěno. The Proto-Slavic *ě > Albanian a remains problematic; it could have been borrowed from a southeastern Slavic dialect. Yet, the anlaut remains unchanged (in older borrowings s > š) and it is geographically limited to Gheg. Compare also Polish siano for the Yat reflex.[1]
Pronunciation
Noun
sanë f (definite sana)
- hay
