Doesn't seem to bear resemblance to any other words for "apron" in the linguistic area; the closest thing might be Chinese 絲/丝 (sī, “silk; thread”) (is siv (“belt, sash”) connected to these terms?)
The "wife" sense is almost certainly a metonymic semantic extension of the "apron" meaning.”
