Verb

sikerül

  1. (intransitive, auxiliary with a verb in the infinitive) to succeed in doing something, to manage to do something

  2. (intransitive) to turn out (well)

Usage notes

In the first sense, the subject of the verb is the attempt itself, expressed with an infinitive or a noun. The person (or other being) who (which) makes the attempt is expressed with -nak/-nek but it is often omitted if it is clear from the context. The person can also be specified if the subject is expressed with an infinitive, by conjugating it with a personal suffix. For example: Sikerült Pistának elküldeni a levelet might mean “We managed to send the letter to Pista” or “Pista managed to send the letter ”. Instead, the former sense can be specified by using elküldenünk, and the latter sense, by using elküldenie. (See also infinitive suffixes in Hungarian.)

Conjugation
