Lithuanian

Etymology

Cognate with Latvian slēpt, of uncertain further origin. Traditionally derived from Proto-Indo-European *(s)klep- (to steal), with dissimilative loss of the *-k- from the *skl-, and cognate with Tocharian B kälyp- (id), Ancient Greek κλέπτω (kléptō, id). However, this assumes that the Proto-Indo-European root had an s-mobile originally, which is not certain, as no descendants in other branches show evidence of the s-mobile.[1][2][3]
