solu
Uncertain. No corresponding cognates (i.e. feminine o-stem nouns) in the other Germanic languages. Likely a back-formation from solu (“swamp, bog”, literally “miry places, muds”), the nominative/accusative plural of sol (“soil, mud, miry place”), taken collectively.
