Akin to Avestan 𐬨𐬆𐬭𐬆𐬖𐬋⸱𐬯𐬀𐬉𐬥𐬋 (mərəγō.saēnō, “the bird Saēna”), Persian سیمرغ (simorğ), as well as Old Armenian սիրամարգ (siramarg, “peacock”), in dialects with սին- (sin-) and meaning “a mythical bird”, Classical Syriac ܣܝܡܘܪ (sīmūr, “a mythical bird”), Iranian borrowings.
