From Middle Vietnamese sắt, from Proto-Vietic *k-rac, from some form of Old Chinese (OC *l̥ˤik) (B-S) (SV: thiết). Cognates within Vietic include Muong Bi khách and Chut kʰlat⁷. Compare Lakkia kʰjãk⁵⁵ (Pain, 2020).[1]
