tej (countable and uncountable, plural tej)
From Proto-Albanian *tai e, a parallel formation to tëhu.[1]
tej
Borrowing from an Iranian language, compare Ossetian дӕйын (dæjyn, “to suck”), Middle Persian (dāyag, “nurse”), Persian دایه (dâye, “nurse”), Northern Kurdish da (“mother”), Sanskrit धयति (dhayati, “to suck, drink”). Cognate also with old Southern Mansi -тай (-taj) (in сыртай (syrtaj, “milk”)), both possibly via Proto-Ugric *täjɜ.[1] The earlier nominative was té, lost in favor of the oblique stem.
