Inherited from Ottoman Turkish توكللی (tevekküllü, tevekkeli)[1] or توكلی (tevekkeli, “(originally) In reliance on God; trusting to chance, haphazardly”),[2][3] from Arabic تَوَكُّل (tawakkul), verbal noun of تَوَكَّلَ (tawakkala, “to rely on, to trust entirely in, especially God”).[4]
