Erik Pontoppidan in Glossarium Norvagicum (1749) gives two different spellings: Mand-Trouviæ for a human snowshoe and Tryer (plural) for horse snowshoes. Also attested by Jacob Nicolai Wilse (1780) in Spydeberg dialect spelled as Truer (plural).
