A zero-grade formation from same root as the verb tráukyti (to pull, draw out; to tear), which Smoczynski derives from Proto-Indo-European *trewk-, comparing to Proto-Germanic *þrukkijaną (to press on, crowd).[1] See also Latvian trūkt (to lack).
