Coined by Atis Kronvalds in 1872, from turp (“further”) + -ināt. He also coined the derived term turpinājums. At first referring only to the continuation of written texts (e.g., the continuation of stories printed in a magazine), this word soon had its meaning broadened to other areas.[1]
