Romanian

Etymology

Most likely inherited from Latin exsūcāre, present active infinitive of exsūcō, or less likely, from a Vulgar Latin root *usticāre, from ustus, from ūrō, although the normal phonetic result in Romanian would have been *usteca or *utsca, after which the intervocalic -t- disappeared; in this view, the form usuc is a modern one that replaced an original form analogically (compare Calabrian uscare (to burn)).[1] Cognate to Aromanian usãc, uscari, Megleno-Romanian usc, uscari, Istro-Romanian uscu.
