First attested in the late 19th century. Originally in the phrase sich den Magen verkorksen (to upset one’s stomach), from dialectal gorksen, gurgsen (to make a gargling sound). Related with gurgeln (to gargle). The form with k apparently by folk-etymological adaptation to Kork (cork), perhaps associated with how cork may ruin wine.
