Cognate with Turkmen ýaşmak (“mouth covering”), Karakhanid يَشْماقْ (yašmāq, “to hide”), Yakut сас (sas, “to hide”). Compare also Karakhanid يَلْما (yalmā, “raincoat”). Equivalent to infinitive of the obsolete verb yaş-.
