Greek
Etymology
Inherited from the mediaeval Byzantine Greek βουνό, βουνόν (bounó, bounón), a metaplasm to neuter of the Ancient Greek βουνός (bounós, “hill”, masculine) of uncertain etymology, probably in accordance to the masculine ὄρος (óros, “mountain”).[1] A connection to βουβών (boubṓn) is very unlikely.[2]
Compare Mariupol Greek вуно́ (vunó).
