Borrowed from an Italic language,[1] ultimately from from Proto-Italic*līðrā(“ingot”).[2] The immediate source for the Greek borrowing could be Sicel*lītrā.[3] The Italic word also survives in Latinlībra. Compare the morphology of Ancient Greekστατήρ(statḗr).
