Literally, ‘mouth's tail’, from жэ (žɛ, “mouth”) + кӏэ (kʼɛ, “tail”). Cognate with Kabardian жьакӏэ (źakʼɛ). The word may be reconstructible at the Proto-Circassian level as *žāḳ’ā /ʒaːkʼʲa/.
