ши • (ši)
From Proto-Mongolic *či; compare Mongolian чи (či).
ши • (ši)
From Proto-Uralic *kečä (“circle, ring”).[1] Cognates include Erzya чи (či, “sun, day”), Finnish kehä (“circle, ring”), Eastern Mari кече (keče, “sun, day”). Replaced Proto-Uralic *päjwä (“sun”).
ши • (ši)
The plural of this term is шит (šit) not *шихть (*šihť)[2] as could be expected from words like тонафни, -хть (tonafńi , -hť, “student, -s”), Golenkov notes that monosyllables ending in -и inflect differently from и-stems longer than 1 syllable.[3]
