Etymology
Maybe the rarer حُثْرُب (ḥuṯrub) is original and this is augmented from the root ح ث ر (ḥ-ṯ-r), variant of خ ث ر (ḵ-ṯ-r) “to clot”, compare خَنْصُور (ḵanṣūr, “Caralluma”), with خَنَاصِير الْعَرُوس (ḵanāṣīr al-ʕarūs) also meaning Astragalus annularis and other Astragalus species, and alleged خَنْثَر (ḵanṯar, “short or small (قَصِير (qaṣīr); sottish, stupid; a vile and rejected thing that has ben left over by man in the camp”), the root خ ث ر (ḵ-ṯ-r) itself deriving from خ ث ث (ḵ-ṯ-ṯ) whence خِثْي (ḵiṯy, “dung”).
