      Contrary to پُرانا (purānā), قَدِیم (qadīm) is chiefly used to highlight something that may now be historical, or no-longer existing or in use, whereas پُرانا (purānā) may be used for something that may be old, but still in existence. The antonym for قَدِیم (qadīm) is جَدِید (jadīd, modern), whereas the antonym for پُرانا (purānā) would be نَیَا (nayā, new).
