From เสรี (sěe-rii, free) +‎ ภาพ (pâap, state; condition); calque of English freedom; coined by King Rama VI of Siam (reigned 1910–1925),[1] perhaps before 1920, as the term appears in the Thai translation of the King James Bible which was carried out from 1920 to 1940.
