Etymology 1

From Proto-Sino-Tibetan *s-wa (to be in motion, go, come), which appears to be the same as *s-wa-ŋ (to go). Cognate with Old Chinese (OC *ɢʷa, “to proceed, go”) (STEDT). The "fornicate" sense is a semantic loan from Pali gacchati.

MED groups the "go" and "tooth" senses together, when they should be separated. It is unclear which sense the "be sharp" sense is related to.
