Il nome "Rataspona", analogo all'it. "Ratisbona" e al fr. "Ratisbonne", è attestato per la prima volta in fonti letterarie intorno al 770 in Arbeone da Frisinga, probabilmente però alla base vi è un toponimo celtico composto di due parole: "rate" o "ratis" <<vallo, mura>> e "bona" <<fondazione>> o <<città>> (cfr.
