The formation is similar to χορδαψός (khordapsós), σκινδαψός (skindapsós) and λύκαψος (lúkapsos), so it is probably a Pre-Greek word. Compare Γαληψός (Galēpsós), considered Pre-Greek for the same reason. γαληψός (galēpsós) may be derived from the place name.
