According to Beekes, it is a Pre-Greek word, like many other words for vessels. This word is generally connected to Luwian (tipas, “sky, heaven”). Another theory derives the noun from Proto-Albanian *deupa (“cradle, deposit”), comparing it to Albanian djep.[1]
