Borrowed from Itelmen аʼӈичӽ (a'ngičch), of onomatopoeic origin. Cognate to Tundra Nenets ӈаʼʼӈо (nga"ngo, “pochard, long-tailed duck”) and Nivkh ауӈк (auŋk, “type of duck”).
