Erzya
Etymology
From Proto-Mordvinic *mastər. At least the first component is from Proto-Uralic *mëxe. Proper names (toponyms like Арзамас (Eŕźamas) and personal names Инемас, Келемас) point on existing of the shortened form -мас.
The second component -стор (-stor) was possibly borrowed from a descendant of Proto-Indo-European *sterh₃- (“to stretch”) (compare Proto-Slavic *stornà (“side; land”), *prostorъ (“space, expanse”)).
