Unclear. Bulgarian Etymological Dictionary lists three hypotheses:

• Related to dial. Bulgarian при́чав (príčav, “whimsical, wayward”) (< Proto-Slavic *prič-), perhaps a cognate to Slovene príča (“argument, altercation”);
• Per M. Račeva: Possibly from *pri- +‎ *tъščiti (“to deplete”), akin to Bulgarian щета́ (štetá, “damage”);
• Denominal causative-iterative from dialectal прищ (prišt, “blister”) (< Proto-Slavic *pryščь), as in при́щя се (príštja se, “to get blisters”);

Compare further Lithuanian príekis (“anterior”), Latvian prieks (“joy”).
