First attested in c. 1360‒1380. Compare Russian тайме́нь (tajménʹ), Middle Russian таймень (tajmenʹ), first attested only in 1628. Derivative тайменина (tajmenina, taimen meat) since 1590, таймешекъ (tajmešek, small taimen) since 1626.
