Together with Old Georgian სენაკი (senaḳi), borrowed from Middle Iranian *sēniyak, from Old Iranian *sayanīyaka- (literally that which is to be slept in, sleeping-room), ultimately from Proto-Indo-European *ḱey- (to lie down). Compare Sanskrit शयनीयक (śayanīyaka, bed, couch), शयनीय (śayanīya, to be slept or lain on), शयन (śayana, repose; bed) and Latin cūnae (cradle, crib; nest).
